LED Dock Lighting

At Delta Wye Electric, we are continuously researching to find innovative, cost effective and energy efficient products.  With new advancements in Dock Lighting, there are many advantages to gain such as energy savings, reduced maintenance cost, and improved safety and productivity.

Although there are many dock lighting products on the market, Delta Wye has found that Versa Light LED Dock Lights outperform the rest.   The unit, which incorporates state-of-the-art lighting technology, is engineered to deliver long-lasting performance in the most demanding dock applications.

Versa Light delivers maximum light output for full trailer illumination.  Not only does this improve safety, it can help improve productivity at the loading dock.  The patented design offers up to 85,000 hours in LED life.  This is 70% greater than other LED dock lights. LEDs do not have a filament and therefore, are better suited to withstand shock and vibration at your loading dock.

Additionally, Versa Light LEDs are protected by an aluminum heat sink, contributing to their durability. Unlike screw-in style LEDs or CFLs, the LED Versa Light head is securely fastened to the flex tube assembly. These features help reduce maintenance and repair costs.

Orion Energy Systems’ exterior lighting wins gold at Plant Engineering awards

Before/After Exterior LightingFluorescent technology designed to reduce energy consumption, costs by 50 percent in outdoor applications

Orion Energy Systems Inc.  was awarded first place in the lighting category at the Plant Engineering Product of the Year Awards held Monday.

Introduced in 2009, Orion’s exterior lighting uses fluorescent technology to reduce energy consumption and costs by 50 percent when compared to high-intensity discharge lighting traditionally used to illuminate parking lots and other outdoor areas after dark.

In a reader vote by plant managers and other Plant Engineering magazine readers, Orion’s exterior technology was selected over Cooper Lighting’s LED exterior fixture for the gold award. Winners were announced in an awards ceremony during the publication’s annual manufacturing summit in Chicago.

“We’re honored to receive a top award from Plant Engineering magazine for the second year in a row,” said Orion CEO Neal Verfuerth. “The fact that the publication’s readers selected our Apollo® solar light pipe as the Grand Award winner last year and our energy efficient exterior platform this year validates that plant managers recognize Orion as the energy-efficiency technology leader.”  Click here to view entire press release.

10 Benefits Of Using Adjustable Speed Drives

fan_pump_and_motorsWith savings up to 70% in energy costs, one would wonder why more facilities don’t use adjustable speed drives.

As energy costs rise and energy supplies become strained, controlling motors based on the actual demands of the load becomes increasingly important.  Besides the obvious energy savings, there are several other benefits of using adjustable speed drives.  As Plant Engineering points out, using an ASD can protect machinery from damage and protect the process or product because the amount of torque being applied by the motor to the load can be controlled accurately.  To read many more benefits of adjustable speed drives click here.

FinishMaster, Inc. Receives Orion Environmental Award

As the result of a light-related electricity reduction at its Mira Loma, Calif., distribution facility, FinishMaster has received Orion Energy Systems’ Environmental Stewardship Award.

Orion presents the award to companies that achieve significant environmental benefits through the use of Orion’s energy-efficient products and systems.

Contractor Delta Wye Electric Inc. replaced 52 high-intensity discharge (HID) light fixtures with Orion’s Compact Modular, high-intensity fluorescent (HIF) system at the 32,000-square-foot facility.

“The award was a nice surprise,” said Distribution Center Manager Jesse Rose. “We initially did this to save some money, but it’s nice to be recognized for helping save the environment.”

The completed project reduces light-related electricity consumption at FinishMaster by 77 percent. Orion’s system is expected to decrease the amount of kilowatt-hours FinishMaster consumes for lighting from an annual 135,795 kWh to 30,950 kWh.

Because a reduced amount of electricity is needed to power FinishMaster’s lights, FinishMaster is helping keep harmful greenhouse gases from entering the atmosphere.

In total, FinishMaster will decrease carbon dioxide emissions by 1,377 tons over the life of Orion’s fixtures as a result of the kilowatt-hour reduction, according to the Environmental Protection Agency. During that same period, FinishMaster will reduce 6 tons of sulfur dioxide and 2 tons of nitrogen oxides.

The reductions are the air-scrubbing equivalent of a 19-acre forest or removing 17 cars from the road. It also is the conservation equivalent of saving 8,655 gallons of gasoline every year, according to the EPA.

As a result of the energy system installation, FinishMaster is projected to cut its light-related energy costs 77 percent, from an annual $24,443 to $5,571.
